Barometers
work by indicating a fall or rise in air pressure. A higher
pressure indicates fair and dry conditions, whilst a low pressure
indicates unsettled and wet weather. Between the two comes that
rather general wide ranging term - Changeable.
Types
of Barometer
There
are three types of Barometer:
1. Mercury
Stick (or Cistern Tube)
2. Mercury Wheel or Banjo
3. Aneroid.
A mercury
barometer of types 1 & 2, is generally considered to be
more accurate than an aneroid, although for domestic purposes,
where great accuracy is not essential, there is little to choose
between them. New or reproduction barometers - stick, wheel
or aneroid - can be made to order, using authentic materials
and fittings, in either traditional styles or in a modern style
to suit a customer's own preference and choice of wood.
Please
note that these reproduction barometers are quality pieces of
furniture, made from the finest materials and parts, and serious
instruments. They are not to be confused with those found in
many gift and craft shops, excellent though those instruments
may be.
The cost
of a barometer varies depending upon the type chosen and the
options required. A quote can be given on application.
